Of all of the other flooring choices, Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) is the newest type of flooring. Kansas City and Johnson County homeowners love LVP for it's cost effective look, durability and flexibility. Below are a number of reasons why LVP can be a great choice in flooring in your home. However, it’s important to note that Luxury Vinyl Plank (like it's name suggests) is not real wood, and those who want to invest in real hardwood flooring, should check out our real hardwood flooring option or even pre-finished hardwood installation.
What Exactly is LVP?
LVP is a type of manufactured, artificial flooring that looks like wood (or other types of material, like masonry). The core material is a high-density fiberboard that has been fused together with other materials via a heat and pressure method. What makes LVP look like wood is a highly realistic and detailed image of wood. This image is covered (laminated) into a top layer with clear finish that resists damage, stains, and moisture. As stated before, LVP is most often made to look like wood, but the industry has exploded with so many other looks that include stone, brick, concrete, tile and exotic woods, even bamboo.
The Benefits of LVP - Luxury Vinyl Plank
LVP is very durable flooring. The layer of finish offers a great deal of protection, while the fiber board guarantees that the floor will hold up to just about anything. Because it’s fairly quick and easy to manufacture, laminate is not as expensive as real hardwood flooring. It’s also a speedy install - with the right prep.
Installing LVP
Another great benefit to Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring is that it doesn’t require any nails, staples, or glue to install. Instead, our professional installation team will simply snap the flooring together using the manufacturers recommendation - which may include putting down an underlayment. Sometimes, this step isn’t even necessary—some LVP has the underlayment factory pre-installed on the bottom of each plank.
If necessary, our installation team will remove your old flooring. However, if your current flooring is level, and in acceptable condition it’s possible to install your new laminate floor right on top of the old floor. We will assist in making the installation decision for your home's unique flooring situation.
